HomeHow We Work

How We Work

This is the whole method, written out. It is deliberately boring, because the value is in doing it in the right order rather than in any single clever idea.

The order of operations

We do not start with technology. We start with your business.

We do not recommend something because it is new or because everybody is talking about it. We recommend it because it fixes something specific that is costing you time, money or customers.

Understand the business

What you sell, who buys it, and what actually makes or costs money.

Find the real problem

The one underneath the one you noticed.

Look at how the work is done

Where it moves between people and systems. That is where it breaks.

Decide whether technology helps

Honestly. Sometimes the answer is no, and that is useful to know.

Choose the right fix

Picked on fit and price, not on what we happen to be good at selling.

Put it in properly

Set up, connected, tested, and taught to the people who will use it.

Check whether it worked

If you did not get hours or money back, it is not finished.

  • Sometimes the right answer is AI.
  • Sometimes it is automation.
  • Sometimes it is better software.
  • Sometimes it is connecting the systems you already pay for.
  • And sometimes the best answer is changing how the work is done, instead of buying anything at all.

That last line is the part most firms will not say out loud, because there is no invoice attached to it. We say it anyway. It is the reason people call us back.

How the work happens

No two businesses have the same problem, so we do not sell the same answer.

Most of the value here is not writing software. It is asking the right questions, working out what is really going on, and then finding the shortest honest way to fix it. Sometimes that is a big build. Very often it is not.

You tell us what is wrong, in your own words

No technical language needed. “Thursdays are a mess” is a perfectly good place to start.

We find the real problem

What you notice is usually a symptom. The cause is normally one step upstream of it.

We research it properly

Tools, vendors, real prices, what other companies your size actually use, and what it would take. This is the part you are paying for.

You get choices, not a product

Usually three: the cheap fix, the right fix, and the one that changes how the business runs. Including the times the answer is to buy nothing.

We put the right people on it

Whoever that job actually needs, arranged and managed by us, so you keep one phone number.

We check whether it worked

If you did not get hours back or money back, it is not finished.

Who you are working with

One point of contact. A real team behind it.

This is not a one-man shop. Sam Cornell founded First Coast Group and stays your point of contact from the first call to the last, so you are never handed off to a stranger who has to be brought up to speed.

Behind him is a team we bring in as the work demands: technology advisors who work day to day inside the largest technology companies in the world, consultants from national firms, and working software engineers. You get the attention of a small firm and the reach of a much bigger one, and you never pay for people you are not using.

Advisors inside the biggest technology companiesPeople who spend their working days scoping and selling the platforms everyone else only reads about. When you need to know what a system genuinely does before you sign for it, that is who looks at it for you.
Consultants from national firmsPeople who consult for a living and have already run the process you are trying to fix, in companies about the size of yours.
Engineers and developersWorking software engineers for custom tools, connecting systems, data work and automation that has to hold up in the real world rather than in a demo.
Specialists when you need themSecurity, cloud, data and trade-specific experts brought in for the one piece that needs it. We coordinate them, we bill for them, and we stay responsible for the result.

And if we cannot do it, we will find you somebody who can

Some jobs sit outside what we do well. When that happens we will tell you straight, and then connect you with the right people and help you ask them the right questions. We would rather send you to the correct person than take your money for a poor fit. That is how you get called back in three years.

Our advisors work with us in an individual capacity. Their employers are not party to your engagement and are not named here for that reason.

Before and after

The same twelve documents, over and over

Before
  • A client emails documents in whatever order they find them
  • Somebody sorts, renames and files each one
  • Details are retyped from PDFs into your system
  • Missing paperwork is discovered a week later
  • The client calls to ask what is happening

Hours a week of clerical work, and gaps found late.

After
  • Documents arrive through one link
  • Each file is identified, named and filed on arrival
  • Details are read out automatically, then checked by a person
  • Anything missing triggers a request the same day
  • The client gets an update without calling

Minutes of review, and a person still checking anything that matters.

Before and after

Five ways in, one very tired office manager

Before
  • Calls, texts, web forms, Facebook and a referral site
  • Someone checks five places, several times a day
  • An emergency sits behind twelve routine messages
  • Whoever is loudest gets answered first
  • Nobody can tell you how many inquiries came in last week

One person holding the whole thing together in her head.

After
  • Everything lands in one list, whatever channel it came from
  • Each one is sorted by type and urgency automatically
  • Emergencies go to the top and are flagged
  • Every inquiry gets an immediate acknowledgment
  • You can see exactly what came in and what happened to it

A queue anybody can pick up, and a real number at the end of the week.

Before and after

One customer inquiry, two versions of the same Tuesday

Before
  • A customer fills in the form on your website
  • The email lands in a shared inbox
  • Somebody notices it, eventually
  • They retype the details into your customer list
  • They write a follow-up from scratch
  • They update the spreadsheet everybody argues about

About twenty minutes of somebody's attention per lead.

After
  • The customer fills in the form
  • The details are captured and sorted automatically
  • The lead is graded and put in the right pile
  • Your customer records update themselves
  • The customer hears back within minutes
  • Your team gets a real lead with the details attached

Under a minute, and the customer heard from you first.

Notice that none of these examples start with a product. They start with a Tuesday that was not working.

Ways to start

Start with a free conversation. Go further only if it is worth it to you.

Four ways to work together, from free to fully hired. You know every price before any work starts, and you only move up a step when you can see why.

Step one

A Free Conversation

Free · 30 minutes

Coffee here in St. Augustine, or a video call if that is easier. You tell us what is not working. We ask questions. Nobody sells you anything.

  • Thirty minutes, in person or on video
  • Plain English. You do not need to know what any of it is called
  • You leave with at least one thing you can go do yourself
  • If we are not the right people to help, we will say so and point you to someone who is
Book the free call

Free every time. Not a trial offer, and not a sales call.

Most popularStep two

Technology Briefing

$300

We spend an hour together on your business. Then we go do the research and come back with a written report you could act on tomorrow, with or without us.

  • A one-hour working session, in person or on video
  • Hours of real research on your business, not a template
  • A written report within one week: what to do, in what order, and what it costs
  • Every recommendation is something you can actually do
Book a $300 briefing

Credited back in full if you hire us within 30 days. Add $200 and we turn it around the same day.

Step three

Business Deep Dive

Quoted for your business

We come into your business and look at all of it: your people, how work moves, your software, your data, your systems and your equipment. You get a plan you own.

  • Time on site with you and the people doing the work
  • Every finding sorted into one of six answers: keep, replace, connect, automate, add, or skip
  • A 90-day plan in order, with real budget numbers
  • The plan is yours to keep, even if you never hire us to build any of it
Start a deep dive

A fixed price, agreed before we start, at market-friendly competitive rates. Your briefing fee comes off the total.

Step four

Build and Ongoing Help

Quoted for your business

When you want it built, not just planned. Most jobs are scoped to be finished inside two weeks, at a fixed price you agreed to before anything started.

  • Software setup, connecting systems, automation, custom tools and websites
  • Most projects finished within two weeks
  • Training, so your people own it instead of depending on us
  • Optional monthly help: someone to call, without adding a salary
Talk about a project

Ongoing help is quoted month to month. Leave any time with 30 days’ notice.

  • A fixed price, agreed before any work starts
  • Market-friendly, competitive rates
  • Most builds finished inside two weeks
  • Your briefing fee credited toward what comes next
  • No long contracts and no surprise invoices

Beyond the briefing, work is quoted job by job, because no two businesses need the same thing. For comparison, firms that do this work usually charge $2,000 to $5,000 just to look at your business and $150 to $350 an hour after that. We quote against those numbers, not above them. Let us work out what you actually need.

Thirty minutes, free, and nobody pitches you at the end. Bring us the part of your week you hate and we will tell you honestly whether technology can fix it.
